Taleia, which means obsession in Catalan, is a single-estate wine made from a selection of Sauvignon Blanc vines sourced from its own vineyards in the coolest, south-west-facing part of the Catalan Pyrenees, blended with a tiny percentage of Sémillon.

Production:

Harvested by hand. Partly fermented in new French oak barrels and in 12th-century carved stone vats at low temperatures. It undergoes a period of ageing, part in French oak barrels and the rest in small stainless steel vats on its lees. After being bottled, it rested for another 9 months.

Tasting Notes: 

Very pale yellow in colour with pronounced apricot and boxwood aromas, soft vanilla mixes, a spicy edge, and lightly herbal notes. On the palate, the aromas of wet stone enhance the mineral sensation with marked salinity. Excellent acidity, fresh, crisp, and very dry.

Notes:  Will gain in complexity with some time in bottle, and because of its good acidity, it can age nicely.

THE WINERY

Castell d’Encus, the project by the winemaker and partner in Priorat’s Ferrer-Bobet, Raul Bobet, is located in the municipal district of Talarn, en el Pallars, in the DO Costers del Segre. This is a very privileged location at the foothills of the Pyrenees, in the far north-east of Spain, at almost 1000 metres of altitude. It is surrounded by forest with good exposure to the sun, and soils very poor in organic matter. The estate owns 95 ha, of which 23 ha are under vines. There is a great respect for nature and for the environment. They only use organic fertilizers and natural products that are approved for use in organic agriculture, and they do not use any insecticides, or fungicides.
