The Muga Blanco is made with the traditional grape varieties from the Rioja Qualified Designation of Origin. The grapes come from the Oja Valley, with mainly clay-limestone soils, and from the upper Najerilla area, with clay-ferrous soils.

Production:

Hand-harvested. The must is lightly macerated with the skins. Fermentation takes place in new, lightly toasted Frenck oak barrels of different sizes. The must is then left to rest for 3 months on its own lees, with daily batonages during the last month.

Tasting Notes: Straw yellow colour. Clean and elegant on the nose, with good aromatic complexity, scents reminiscent of stone fruit, as well as floral and citrus notes. Powerful on the palate, with good acidity, citrussy, stone fruit flavours, and a touch of vanilla. Refreshing mouthfeel and a deliciously long finish.

THE WINERY

Since its establishment in 1932, Bodegas Muga has kept improving and moving up until becoming one of Rioja’s leading bodegas, producing high-quality wines from its own 200 hectares of vines and another 150 hectares that they manage but are owned by local vine growers.

The Bodega is located in Haro, the emblematic town in the highly acclaimed wine region of La Rioja Alta. The vineyards are located at the foot of the Monte Obarenses, and the soil consists of clay and limestone. A traditionally run bodega believing in long wood ageing and where the oak is paramount, producing wines that combine tradition with innovation, wines with a pronounced personality, where the influence of the terroir and climate is fully present.
