This is a tribute to Dom Juan Fort, Prior of Scala Dei. An exquisite dry Liquor- rancid-style wine of very limited production, and very hard to get hold of one.
Production:
Produced from a selection of Grenache grapes from the Priorat region, wines are aged in barrels of different ages in a single blend. Long ageing in Foudres Oak by the traditional method of Criaderas and Soleras. This is one of the oldest soleras of the winery, dating back to 1865.
Tasting Notes:
Amber-coloured, intense nose of mature fruit, roasted hazelnuts and other dry fruits, coffee, tobacco, and mineral. Dry and rancid with volume and intensity, in perfect harmony, a finish that lasts and lasts. Utterly delicious, complex wine.
Note: As with all fortified wines, sediments can be produced within a period of time after their bottling. It is recommended to store the bottle upright. Excellent as a digestive with cured cheeses.
THE WINERY
Founded in 1851, De Muller is a top name in Tarragona, very well-known worldwide for being the supplier of the traditional Mass wine and for its rancio and fortified wines. At present, De Muller offers a very wide range of quality wines under the Denomination of Origin Tarragona, as well as in Priorat and Terra Alta. Since the beginning of 1996, the winery surrounded by its vineyards has been located in the finca "Mas de Valls" in Reus (Tarragona). Their modern installations have a capacity for a production of four million liters, and here they elaborate the Tarragona Denomination of Origin wines, all sourced from their 150 ha of own vineyards. They also have a property in the village of El Molar, in the south-eastern part of el Priorat, with 34 ha of vineyards, "Mas de les Pusses", and a new cellar with a capacity for 500.000 liters, where they produce the Priorat Denomination of Origin wines.
