Producer: Raventós I Blanc

Region: Catalonia (Penedés – Conca del Riu Anoia)

Bottle: 75cl

Grape Varieties: 45% Xarelo, 30% Macabeo and 25% Parellada

Type:  Sparkling Gran Reserva Brut

Alcohol Content: 12% vol

Serving Temperature: 6º–8º C.

Production:

An estate sparkling wine with the personal stamp of its creator, sourced from a historic vineyard with the ideal geology and microclimate conditions to produce their finest and most emblematic cava.

The grapes are selected from nine different plots, located on the slopes of the Serral hills with a north-eastern exposure and planted on calcareous soils with tropical marine fossils. The first fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature and is bottle aged for a minimum of 3 years on its lees in the rack down position. Reducing sugar: 3,5 g/L.

Tasting Notes:

Delicious, refreshing white fruits with a twist of lemon, toasty and buttery nuts. Dry and light toasted flavours. Crisp palate touch with lots of elegance on an excellent finish.

Note: Best consumed up to 12–24 months after the disgorgement date.

THE WINERY

Raventós i Blanc, a producer of top quality cava with a well-deserved reputation for elegant, well conceived white wines, comprises a 90-ha estate vineyard, woods, and a lake in Sant Sadurni d’Anoia that have belonged to the Raventós family since 1497. The winery was founded in 1986 by Josep-Maria Raventos, a member of the Codorniu family. After abandoning the presidency of the big firm Codorniu, he set up his new independent, much smaller, and quality-orientated winery.

Today, the operation is run by his own son and grandson, direct descendants. At the end of 2012, in order to better understand and convey the viticultural traditions in terms of soil and climate, they took the decision to leave the Cava Appellation and adopt a new, uncertified designation to classify their wines: "Conca del Riu Anoia", the name for a small geographical area around the Anoia River Valley in eastern Penedès.
