Winery:  Celler Cal Pla

Region:  Porrera - D.O.Q. Priorat

Vintage: 2015

Bottle:  75cl

Grape Varieties: 50% Grenache and 50% Carignan

Type:  Red wine, oak aged

Alcohol Volume:  15% Vol

Serving Temperature:  16º-18º

Production:

A coupage of the grape varieties Garnacha and Samsó (Cariñena) from 100+ year old vines grown on terraces or steep slopes at an altitude of 500 metres above sea level and facing south. The plots, property of the family, are located around the village of Porrera in the appellation of Priorat in the Catalonian region.

Grapes are manually harvested with very low yields, only 0.5 kg per vine on average. The wine has been aged in new French oak barriques for 16 months.

Tasting Notes:

Extremely complex and expressive nose showing good fruit, black cherry and black plum, spices, and mineral notes. Dense, mineral with lovely intensity of a sweet, black-fruited palate. Good character and expression of region and vintage.

Notes:  Would improve greatly with an hour's decanting two hours ahead. The wine has very good ageing potential. This wine will keep very well during the next 13-14 years and will gain even more complexity with time in bottle.

Celler Cal Pla is a small, family-run winery, dating back to 1814. It is located in the village of Porrera, a small village in the heart of the highly acclaimed wine region of Priorat. Cal Pla is the name of the family and the house, which gives the name to the wines. They can be proud of their more than 200-year history, that has seen various generations working hard, growing vines and making wines, to pass on the legacy to their descendents. Today it is in the hands of the seventh generation, run successfully by Joan Sangenís, which is making an interesting range of wines, all produced from grapes grown in the family’s own vineyards and bottled in their cellar.
