Olivares Altos de la Hoya is a blend of Monastrell selected Monastrell grapes from the estate's oldest, unirrigated vines with a small percentage of Grenache.

The monastrell comes from a vineyard located in the site of "Hoya de Santa Ana" in the municipality of Tobarra, at an altitude of over 800 meters above sea level, the highest point in the DO. Surrounded by Mediterranean forest and with poor, sandy-loam soil, the Monastrell grape finds here the perfect place for its development.

Production:

Harvested by hand. Vinified with indigenous yeasts and fermented in stainless steel tanks. Aged for 6 months in 60-hl French oak barrels with only a tiny percentage of new oak.

Tasting Notes:

Monastrell at its best, with great concentration, persistence, and balance. A big wine with lots of fruits, liquorice, allspice, cherries, strawberries, and a touch of prunes Juicy acidity, long and warm finish.

BODEGAS OLIVARES

The Olivares family still runs the family winery founded in 1930 by Pascual Olivares. The founder of the winery believed in the special qualities of the Monastrell variety to adapt to poor soils to produce wines that reflect the essence of the terroir where he was born and raised.

It began with small-scale production, which the succeeding generations have continued to produce, expanding the family business by increasing sales both nationally and internationally.

The 275-hectare estate is comprised of a singular soil type, situated at an altitude of over 800 meters, the highest point in the DO. The estate benefits from a climate with abrupt seasonal changes, where unique ungrafted vines grow in a resistant and enduring vineyard located in the municipality of Tobarra, "Haya de Santa Ana".
