Noster Inicial, is the winery's youngest red wine, is a cuvee of 25-year-old vines growing on the characteristic "Licorella" slate soils and cultivated following organic farming practices.

Production:

Selective manual harvesting is followed by a selection process on the sorting table. Each variety ferments separately at a controlled temperature of 25–28ºC in both stainless steel tanks and French oak barrels.

The wine ages for 12 months, 50% in French oak barrels and the rest in stainless steel vats. No herbicides or synthetic products have been used.

Tasting Notes

Excellent concentration and fruit ripeness. Intense aromas of black fruit with freshness, spicyness and mineral character. Full-bodied red, with subtle oak, juicy with a smooth fruit attack, marked tannin with a sweet touch and balsamic undertones.

La Perla del Priorat is one of the oldest wineries in Priorat. Its history dates back to the 15th century, when it used to be an important Priorat monastery known as "Mas del Frares", occupied by the Carthusian monks of Scala Dei and surrounded by an extended vineyard from which the monks blended their wines, almost to the end of the 19th century, when it was abandoned by the monks.

The winery was owned and run by the family of Count Pirenne, who in 1998 bought “Mas dels Frares” along with an extra 100 hectares of land, replanting the vineyards that had already by then vanished to elaborate their four wines, which were produced at La Perla del Priorat. Actually, the new owners, Miquel and Montse, under the name of Estriacus, are very proud to continue with this prestigious tradition.
