Production:

Sourced from a selection of different tiny parcels. Fermentation takes place in oak with indigenous yeast.

Spent 24 months in French oak.

It was fined using fresh egg whites before bottling, and afterwards spent a further 18 months in bottle before being released.

Tasting Notes:

It has quite a complex nose displaying aromas of ripe black fruits, sweet vanilla, leather, and prunes, complemented with balsamic and mineral notes. Full-bodied, sumptuous palate of rich black fruit plumy flavors, spice and fruit in harmony, a smoky touch, firm tannins, and a long finish.

Notes: It will benefit from some airing or decanting before serving. Drinks beautifully now and has a good structure to age.

THE WINERY

Since its establishment in 1932, Bodegas Muga has kept improving and moving up until becoming one of Rioja’s leading bodegas, producing high-quality wines from its own 200 hectares of vines and another 150 hectares that they manage but are owned by local vine growers.

The Bodega is located in Haro, the emblematic town in the highly acclaimed wine region of La Rioja Alta. The vineyards are located at the foot of the Monte Obarenses, and the soil consists of clay and limestone. A traditionally run bodega believing in long wood aging and where the oak is paramount, producing wines that combine tradition with innovation, wines with a pronounced personality, where the influence of the terroir and climate is fully present.
