Type:  Red wine, oak aged

Alcohol Volume:  14.5% Vol

Serving Temperature:  16º-18º

The wine comes from small plots of old vines 50-70 years of age, growing on poor mineral and stony terroir high up in the mountains at an altitude of 550 m above sea level, giving low yields but great concentration.

Production:

The grapes were hand-picked and hand selected.

Aged for 12 months in new French oak barriques, light and medium toasted, followed by another 3 months in vats before bottling.

The whole process of the production and handling of Kosher wines must be done exclusively by Jews people. The wine is vinified under the strict supervision of the Rabbi from the Jewish Community Habat of Barcelona. This is a certified kosher wine.

Vinified under the supervision of the Orthodox Union (OU). It is a Kosher wine of high certification, Lo Mebushal (not pasteurized) and Le Pessaj (suitable for Passover), and enjoys a world-wide reputation.

Tasting Notes

Full-bodied and rich with good, vibrant aromas of red and black berries, cherry fruit, and plums. Fine toasty flavours, spicy and mineral notes, and a good weight of cherry fruit on the palate. Fresh and elegant, showing ripe but soft tannins.

It has serious ageing potential; drink through 2031.

The Winery

Founded in 1933 by five families from the village of Capçanes, who together established a cooperative that would handle large quantities of grapes economically and efficiently. The cooperative bears the name of the village where it is located: Capçanes, a village hidden away in the Priorato hills inland from Tarragona and with a long wine-growing history.
In the 1990s, the company was reinvented as an independent company with its original members as shareholders; today, they have around 130 members and produce a wide selection of high-quality wines, including the well known Peraj Ha’abib, a Kosher wine, under the Montsant
appellation.
