Bodega Pago de Carraovejas is one of the leading wineries in the Ribera del Duero, consolidating its prestige with its most exceptional wines. At the top, is the single-vineyard wine "El Anejón", a wine that is made exclusively in exceptional vintages.
El Anejón is one of the first plots in the Ribera del Duero with vineyards growing on terraces, and one of the scarce examples. Vines planted in 2001 at a unique location at an altitude of 900 meters, where the soils are of a compact loam-limestone texture and high in minerality.
El Anejón displays the strength and elegance of the best Ribera del Duero wines, a solid, full-bodied, round and velvety red wine with a lengthy life that will continue to evolve for many years.
Production:
The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected both in the vineyard and in the cellar. Fermentation takes place in small French oak vats using autochthonous yeast and bacteria. Then the wine is transferred to new extra fine-grain French oak barrels through gravity flow where it has aged for 12 months.
It was bottled in the spring of 2021.
Tasting Notes:
Good concentration, ripe, deep aromas of sweet berries, flowers, minerals and spices followed by a huge, expressive palate of berry fruits along with chocolate and cassis standing out, and wonderful creamy tannins
Notes: It is recommended to decant one hour before serving. Enjoy it over the next 8-10 years. A wine with a long life span. It will gain more complexity with time in bottle.
Pago de Carraovejas was founded in 1988 and since then has quickly established a reputation for elegant, high-quality wines. Its vineyards are situated at an average altitude of 850 metres above sea level on a steep hill overlooking the Duero River. The wines are produced with the most advanced techniques, totally respecting the values of nature and the expression of the terroir throughout the winemaking process, from grape harvest through bottling. As a result, their wines have a singular sensibility and an unmistakable character.
