Gallinas & Focas "Hens & Seals" is the name of the project resulting from the partnership between Amadip Esment and 4 kilos vinicola.
Amadip.esment is an organisation for people with mental disabilities, who along with their families get to enjoy an improved quality of life and share the same opportunities as other citizens. Their members are the protagonists, fully participating in the winemaking process and having. Also, they came up with the wine’s name and are responsible for designing the label.
Production:
Sourced from 25-year-old Manto Negro vines located in the municipal district of Binissalem at an altitude of 139 m above sea level on predominantly clay-calcareous soils and from 10-year-old Syrah vines located in the municipal district of Sta. Maria at an altitude of 200 m above sea level and planted on clay loam soils rich in ferric oxide, which are locally known as "Call Vermell" because of their reddish colour.
The grapes follow a careful hand selection process. The fermentation takes place 80% in stainless steel deposits and 20% in 225 and 500-litre barrels. Ageing during 15 months in new French oak barrels, medium toasted.
Tasting Notes: Attractive harmonious nose of red and black fruits, balsamic with hints of spiciness and minerality. Medium-bodied with a lovely smooth silky texture, fresh, lively style, refined with a balanced fresh acidity. Highly recommended!

THE WINERY
4 Kilos is the project of the oenologist Francesc Grimalt, former partner of the Mallorcan winery Ánima Negra, and Sergio Caballero, a musician and partners in the project.
The company was founded in 2006, and the first vintage for its first wine, 4 Kilos 2006, was elaborated in the garage of a winegrower friend. The project started with a small budget but with excellent grapes, hence the name "4 Kilos", which was the initial investment of the two partners in pesetas (4 million pesetas). Since 2007, the wines have been made in their new converted bodega, which is located in a former sheep barn on the outskirts of Felanitx.
From that point on, the project started to climb to the top with a commitment to quality and passion for the product, gaining significant recognition and adding new winemaking projects. From the beginning, they have had the support of the winegrowers, carrying out a rational and environmentally friendly viticulture. The vineyards are located in different municipalities in the south and north of the island, for that reason; they do not belong to any D.O.
