A single estate wine made from very old Grenache vines. The 2015 was the first vintage for this new addition to the Family Nin-Ortiz Project. A very limited amount was released as just 1200 bottles were produced on this vintage.

Nit de Nin "Coma d’en Romeu” is a crafted, small-volume 100% Grenache wine, that already in its first vintage, has positioned itself on the same level as the highly-recognised Nit De Nin "Mas d’en Caçador", a wine that aims to rank alongside the world’s finest.

It comes from the latest acquired estate, which bears the same name: "La Coma d’en Romeu", which they have already biodynamically farmed for the last 5 years, and the previous owner had it registered and farmed ecologically for 10 years. An extraordinary estate with a total of 15 ha, of which 1.5 ha are planted with vines, over 70-year-old Grenache growing on south facing costers  (steeply sloped hillside). The soils are llicorella-based, the characteristic slate of the Prirorat. It is situated near the village of Porrera at an altitude of between 350 and 400 metres.

Production:

Organic and biodynamic farming. Hand harvested. All the grapes go through a careful selection both in the vineyard and on the sorting table at the winery in order to obtain the cleanest and healthiest grapes.

Full clusters fermented spontaneously with natural yeasts. Maceration for 4 weeks. Aged in two barrels of 600 and 300 litres for 17 months. Total sulphur content of 32g/l.

Tasting Notes

Known for its finesse and elegance, it has good aromatic complexity, with black fruit and Mediterranean herbs. The palate is round and smooth, with a velvety and firm texture, great weight, and exceptional length.

Notes: It would improve greatly with 2 hours of decanting or letting the wine breathe in the glass in order to achieve its maximum flavours. This is a very flavorful wine that will continue to develop over the next 2–3 years. With good ageing potential, it can be enjoyed for a long time.

Nit de Nin is the personal project of Ester Nin, with 2004 being her first released vintage. Today, the winery is a strong reference in the region as a producer of high-quality wines. Since 2019, the Nin-Ortíz family has been elaborating their wines in the new winery at the "Les Planetes de Porrera" estate and they work 18 hectares of their own vineyards.

Their wines have been produced under artisan and organic agriculture since 1999, and since 2002, they have been certified by the CCPAE, the Catalan Council for Organic Agricultural Production. In addition, they have also applied biodynamic farming philosophies since 2006, and are part of the distinguished "Reinaissance de les Apellations", an international group of renowned biodynamic wineries.

All their wines come from their own vineyards, costers (natural slopes) worked with mules. The grapes are harvested early in order to preserve the freshness of the berries. No industrial yeasts are added and only a small amount of sulphur is added just to prevent oxidation and to ensure long ageing.
