This wine is a remarkable example of the Noval style. It is a single-vineyard LBV produced using only grapes from Quinta do Noval's own vineyards, located on the steep hillsides in the winding valleys of the Douro river in northern Portugal, considered one of the most promising wine regions in Portugal.
Treated exactly like a vintage port with only noble grape varieties from the Quinta, trodden by foot, and unfiltered. Its main difference is its aging time. It spends five years in casks instead of the two years for the vintage ports.
Production:
Hand-picked, the grapes are trodden by foot in “lagares” and aged in used large wooden barrels between 4 and 5 years in Portuguese oak and chestnut casks.
Noval LBV Unfiltered has a deep, rich red color with ripe aromas of cherries on the nose. Rich and complex, with marked notes of blackberry and blackcurrant fruits and hints of spice. On the palate, it presents good concentration and roundness, with fresh red fruits, a fine and silky tannic structure, and a long aftertaste.
Notes:
Unfiltered. It contains sediment and needs to be decanted. It is delicious to drink today but will age beautifully in its bottle.
Ideal with desserts, cheeses, and chocolates, but it's also delicious on its own.
Quinta do Noval is one of the most famous quinta in the port industry and is well-known throughout the world for its port wines. The Quinta occupies a privileged position above the Pinhão Valley, in the very heart of the Douro Valley, and its earliest recorded history dates back to 1715. The vineyard comprises 145 ha, planted with the noblest grape varieties of the Douro: Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Cão, Sousão.
