Morgon Classique is a natural young red wine, the ideal starting point for exploring Domaine Jean Foillard's range of wines, displaying the most natural expression of the native Gamay variety.
The grapes come from old vines on the outskirts of the village of Villié-Morgon, in a landscape with gentle slopes, and soil made up of crumbled crystalline rocks and pyritic schist rich in iron oxide and manganese.
Winemaking:
Made using natural viticulture and vinification techniques, without the use of herbicides or pesticides, and with minimal sulphur additions.
Hand-harvested. Whole-cluster fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Cold carbonic maceration (4-7 ºC). Aged for 4 to 5 months in stainless steel tanks.
Tasting notes:
Fresh, juicy raspberry and strawberry, floral notes, and spicy hints. On the palate, it shows freshness, velvety texture, and vibrant crushed summer fruit with well-integrated acidity.
Domaine Jean Foillard is a family-run winery in the Beaujolais Cru of Morgon. Founded in the 1980s by Jean Foillard, who took over the estate from his father. The majority of the 14 hectares of vines on the estate are found on the Côte du Py slope
All the wines are made from the native Gamay grape variety sourced from old vines, over 40 years old and some up to 100 years old and grown on granite and schist soils.
Foillard reinvindicates the traditional way of winemaking with minimal intervention using organic viticulture and traditional vinification techniques, no herbicides or pesticides, and minimal sulphur additions. Their wines are characterised by their depth and complexity, and they also have the potential to age well for several years.
